The Black Dahlia was a nickname given to Elizabeth Short an American woman who was the victim of a gruesome and much-publicized murder in 1947. Her unsolved murder has been the source of widespread speculation, that inspired James Ellroy's neo-noir novel, published in 1987, which was made into a 2006 movie directed by Brian De Palma. The Black Dahlia is the first book in Ellroy's L.A. Quartet, a cycle of novels set in 1940s and 1950s Los Angeles, which is portrayed as a hotbed of political corruption and depravity. The Quartet continues with The Big Nowhere, L.A. Confidential (which also became a film, starring Kim Basinger, Russel Crowe, Kevin Spacey and many more), and White Jazz.



Ever since I read this book James Ellroy became one of my favorite thriller writers. I always found thrillers and horror stories very exciting, although I can get very very scared, even when reading a book! The story of Elizabeth Short has been haunting me ever since... A 'Jack the Reaper' case of the 20th century... still unsolved!

Plot: In Los Angeles, California, on January 15, 1947, two LAPD Police Officers Dwight 'Bucky' Bleichert and Lee Blanchard, investigate the murder of Elizabeth Short. As Lee is investigating the case, Bucky falls in love with Lee's girlfriend, Katherine 'Kay' Lake. Lee grows more obsessive and abusive and soon disappears, and is later found dead. 


I cannot reveal more... You have to read or watch it! I did both and found the movie very interesting. Amazing costumes, Oscar-nominated cinematography and a great cast: Josh Hartnett, Aaron Eckhart, Hilary Swank, Scarlett Johansson, Mia Kirshner (played Elizabeth Short) and many more!
